What is New Mexico Rivers Rising?
New Mexico Rivers Rising is dedicated to covering New Mexico’s rivers, streams, wetlands, and springs; the challenges they face in a warming world; and the policies and practices that create or protect environmental flows or instream water rights.
Here, you’ll find independent, transparent, and journalistic-style stories and interviews about the state’s rivers; policy updates related to local, state, and federal actions; and bylined commentaries or pieces from outside contributors.
This independent project is accessible to general readers and water professionals alike — with the goal of exploring the scientific, cultural, spiritual, and ecological roles of flowing rivers, especially in a warming world.
New Mexico Rivers Rising is researched and written by Laura Paskus, a longtime writer and producer, the author of At the Precipice: New Mexico’s Changing Climate, and editor of Water Bodies: Love Letters to the Most Abundant Substance on Earth. This online project is meant to be something of a public conversation, and it’s the scaffolding for a new book about New Mexico’s rivers — and how they can thrive in a warmer future.
